Why doesn't Lessco carry an UL Code?
by Gary Klena

You can be assured that all the products we offer you through our Thermal Associates web site are researched and promised to be safe for your business or home. Quality items is what we strive to provide and have used every thing we sell here in our business and own homes. We look for safety approval ratings from testing laboratories such as the Underwriters Laboratories, which everyone knows as the UL listing.

One product we do have that does not have a UL label is the Lessco Air Vapor Box and we would like to explain that. When Mr. Steve Lentz, president of The Low Energy Systems Supply Co., Inc. was asked by us he provided the following information:

“The Lessco Air Vapor Barrier box is an extension of the vapor barrier or the air-vapor barrier system (depending upon construction techniques). It is NOT an extension of the electrical system and therefore, does not need to be UL listed. The electrical box is the item that needs to be UL Listed. By using the Lessco, you are mounting the UL listed electrical box inside the vapor barrier system.”

So then, what you have with a Lessco is a low density polyethylene box for which there is no UL category and installing in it your electrical box for which there is a UL category. You want your home to be as energy efficient as possible, but every outlet on a wall is a door to defeating your energy savings. The Lessco box gives you a safe way to seal off that door and provide you with a structure that is keeping your heating/cooling dollars in your pocket.

By using the Lessco Air Vapor Boxes you are also keeping the moisture from having a direct route into the wall cavities thereby eliminating the cause of most structural deterioration and health problems from forming interior wall mold.

With all that said, we invite you to look at our other healthy house/energy saving products such as the Venmar Heat Recovery Ventilators and the Honeywell Programmable Thermostats.
